Torn or ragged leaf edges (deer lack upper incisors). Hoof prints. Droppings. Plants browsed to stem.

Plants browsed from top down. Ragged edges on remaining leaves. Antler rub damage on young trees.
Organic Control
Fencing (8 ft minimum). Repellent sprays (must reapply). Motion-activated sprinklers. Dogs. Netting over vulnerable crops.

Not applicable. Physical barriers are the only reliable control.
Prevention
8-foot fencing (most reliable). Double fencing (two 4-ft fences 4 ft apart). Deer-resistant plantings on perimeter. Avoid planting deer favorites (hostas, beans) without protection.
