Verticillium dahliae

Soilborne fungus similar to Fusarium but thrives in cooler conditions. Very broad host range.

Identification

V-shaped yellowing on leaf margins. Wilting in heat, partial recovery at night (early stage). Brown streaking in stem vascular tissue.

Damage & Symptoms

Progressive wilt. Stunted growth. Reduced yield. Eventually kills plants. Survives in soil for 10+ years.

Organic Control

No cure. Remove infected plants. Solarize soil. Biofumigation with brassica cover crops (mustard).

Chemical Control

No effective chemical control. Soil fumigation (commercial only).

Prevention

Resistant varieties (V on tag). Long crop rotation. Avoid planting after potatoes, eggplant, or strawberries. Do not overwater.
